Tell Us A Little About Yourself:
I'm married to my wife Andrea, and we have a son Logan (11) and daughter Olivia (9)
Years in the Mattawan District:
We moved to the district in 2003.
How are you connected to Mattawan Consolidated Schools:
My wife, Andrea, runs Supplies for Success, a local charity that provides new and gently used clothing to those students in the school system in need. I personally helped out quite a bit with the “Yes” for Mattawan campaign a few years back on the marketing side of things. Our kids are now in 6th and 4th grade and we have been big supporters of Mattawan Schools and MPEF in the past.
What brought you to MPEF:
Essentially my willingness to serve is why I am here. I feel like we have a great school system that can be made even greater with the help of organizations like MPEF. I understand the shortcomings that we need to overcome because of budgetary restrictions by the state government. We need to keep Mattawan Consolidated Schools on par with the other schools in Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties. The investment we put into MCS’s pays huge dividends to Mattawan in the long-run.
Real life outside of MPEF:
I graduated from Hope College with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting in 2000. I went to work for Lippert Components, an RV and Mobile Transportation Supplier, in 2001 and have worked there ever since. For the first 8 years of my tenure I worked in data analytics and business systems. In 2009, I started the LCI marketing department. LCI was around $300 million in sales at this time. Today, I am Vice President of Marketing for LCI. We are a $2.3 billion, multi-national organization and publicly traded on the New York Stock exchange. I have a team of 21 marketing professionals that report to me whose talents include video production, graphic design, public relations, social media, web development and event coordination. I have personally had to do all these jobs myself, so I am very well versed in the marketing world. We market not only products, but our company’s philanthropic endeavors, leadership training, employee retention programs and much more.
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and golfing. I have volunteered with both of my kids’ sports teams as well as with the Northern Indiana Food bank and many other places that we sponsor through Lippert Component’s charitable arm, “Acts of Service.”
What inspires you about Mattawan Consolidated Schools:
I believe we have a great school system and great teachers and great kids. Having watched my kids grow up in the system and to see how well-adjusted they are, it makes me proud. Andrea and I were products of the public school system (Alma & Coldwater, MI) and we feel that we’re both better because of it. Anything we can do to enrich the children’s learning experience will only make it better!
Do you have a education memory that has stuck with you?:
The friendships I made in Alma were probably the best memories that I have. My senior year in high school I traveled to Spain for two weeks with 40 if my classmates. We visited Madrid, Grandada, Sevilla and the Costa del Sol. I stayed with a family for 7 days while I was there. To me, these two weeks with my classmates was the very best experience that I can remember. Immersing myself in the culture and language helped my skills immensely.
